Trying soooo hard to roll over!

Devin recently became interested in trying to roll from his back to his belly. His method is really funny and interesting--he arches his back and rolls to his side (ALWAYS his left side because he uses his right arm to reach over and across his body, kind of like he's getting the momentum up to roll over), reaches as far up and over as he can with his right arm, and usually ends up on his belly with his face in the blanket or floor. The only problem is that he can't figure out how to get his left arm out from underneath him once he's on his belly...once he masters that, he's officially mastered rolling from his back to his belly!

The only other potential problem is that Devin would much rather spend time on his back than his belly (hence part of the reason he's probably just now taking interest in trying to move out of that position!), and I'm afraid once he figures out that rolling over just puts him on his belly--which he's really not too fond of--he'll quit rolling over! After all, he's much happier on his back and it takes less effort for him to just stay in that position! :) Hopefully, though, he continues to work on rolling over and eventually rolls over and over and over several times in a row!

He's also become SUCH a wiggle worm in his crib! I took out his sleep positioner because once he starts sleeping unswaddled (whenever the little booger decides that will be) he won't be able to have ANYTHING in the crib...so I wanted him to at least get used to that part now. I also decreased his incline that he sleeps on (to help with the reflux...he's still inclined just not as much) and took out his "butt bumper" that kept him from just sliding off the incline and ending up crumpled at the bottom. Now he has nothing at all in his crib and within 10 minutes of me putting him to bed he has wiggled all the way to the other end of the crib and he's turned himself around 180 degrees! And he does all that swaddled!! When I woke him up this morning, though, he had wiggled over to the side of the crib and had his face buried in the crib bumper--AHHHH!!! He likes to nuzzle his face in soft things when he's sleepy (usually he does it into your chest or shoulder when you're putting him to sleep) but obviously we can't let him sleep with his face buried in the crib bumper! So tonight we took them out before he went to bed. Poor guy--his crib is being stripped down to just a sheet and a waterproof pad (to absorb any spitup or diaper overflows!). Oh well, I doubt he really cares much! :)

Devin also had a wonderful visit with his birthfather, Russell, a couple of weeks ago. It was really fun to see them interact and play together, because the last time Russell saw Devin he was only a few weeks old...and obviously didn't really DO much! This time Devin really showed off his rapidly-emerging personality...he squealed, belly laughed, drooled, cuddled, drooled some more, talked, giggled, drooled even more, and babbled. He also showed off his newly acquired skills--reaching for objects, talking your ear off (what can I say...he has obviously already learned some behaviors from us...okay, me!!), trying to roll over (poor Russell felt so bad for Devin because he was trying soooo hard and not succeeding--so Russell kept "helping" him figure out how to get his arm out from under him to complete the roll!!), and standing/sitting up with a little help. He's been doing those things for quite a while, but it was all new to Russell and he just loved seeing it all!
